Adding Programs Hirens Boot Cd Average ratng: 3,9/5 1807 votes

Ok, so HirensBootCD is fairly well equipped with all of the diagnostic tools you will ever need and various other features. So, because Hiren is dedicated to keeping his iso at the size of a CD (700MB) he has left out a few handy tools that you may need.

But, don't worry he has definitely left you with the option to add these extra programs. This post will explain how to easily add these extra features. So, first you will need to attach and navigate to your bootable flash drive, which we created in the last post.

In, the root directory you will recall we copied three items. (That is grldr, menu.lst and the HBCD folder.) Now we will be working with a file called 'menu-custom.lst' which is under the HBCD directory (that is X:/HBCD/menu-custom.lst where X: is your flash drive).

Editing the custom menu file. Firstly, locate the file (menu-custom.lst) and open the file with Notepad (or Notepad) Now with this file open you will see a lot of text, this text are the menu items for the grub menu that loads when you select 'Custom Menu. (Use HBCDCustomizer to add your files)' from the main menu when booted to the flash drive.

None of the items in this menu currently work. Hiren has made this 'Custom Menu' to make it easier to add these files/programs. You will notice that most of the menu items are.iso files, to make this simpler for novices, in this post we will only work with these items. Notice the entry for AVG Rescue CD: In this entry, the menu item will show up with the title 'AVG Rescue CD', and it will find and load the file 'avg.iso' in the root directory of the drive (that is 'X:/avg.iso:').

To make this a bit tidier we will put all of the boot items in the directory 'Boot' (X:/Boot) by creating a new folder in the root of the drive and adding all of the iso files. So, we will first edit the menu item to find the file 'X:/Boot/avg.iso'. Edit the highlighted lines to look like this: Adding the iso file. Next we simply download the iso file. This iso being a bootable CD image itself, it will simply boot with no modification needed. So, to get the file it is a free download from the AVG website We will need the CD Creation (not the one for USB Stick.) Download this file (.iso) and save it in the folder we created (X:/Boot). The file needs to be renamed to avg.iso as it will have all of the version information in the name and be something ridiculously long like 'avgarlcdiall1201.iso.'

We are all done. You should be able to boot to your flash drive and select 'Custom Menu.' Then AVG Rescue CD and it will boot with no problems.

Open X:/HBCD/custom-menu.lst with notepad. Locate menu item you wish to add. Add iso file to the associated directory. I.e X:/avg.iso or X:/Boot/avg.iso Notes: Make sure that the file has the same name as in the custom-menu.lst file. Make sure that the file is in the same directory as in the custom-menu.lst file. If you edit the menu item because you changed the directory of the file, make sure that you change both highlighted lines of the menu item. Conclusion By using this cusom-menu.lst file we can add a number of new features to our flash drive, including booting to a version of Linux and using it for diagnostics.

Hirens

In this post we added AVG's Rescue CD which has proven to be a very handy tool for me as an IT Workshop Technician as it allows for the scanning and removal of virus' without the need to remove hard drives and also has a handy feature which scans and repairs boot sectors. I personally have added a number of these items to my boot USB as well as a few of my own tools. Including my current project of a bootable Windows 7 Preinstalled Environment. You have two choices here. You can either follow the directions of Hiren and extract the contents of the ISO to the associated folder shown in custom-menu.lst (meaning place all the contents of the iso 'X:/avira') This may be the better option as Hiren tests the items before he adds them (It could be done like this for compatibility reasons) Or the second option is to just copy the original iso to your flash drive (X:/Boot/avira.iso) and create a new menu item that looks similar to the AVG one with a few Modifications.

Title AVIRA Rescue CD find -set-root /Boot/avira.iso map -mem /Boot/avira.iso (hd32) map -hook chainloader (hd32). Sorry, there is no way easy way to simply add an option for a Windows 7 Install. I myself have tried and failed many times to add it to my 'Boot Menu'. The problem being, you can set it up to boot fine to the iso, but once you have booted to it the iso needs to be mounted as a CD device otherwise the installer cannot get the necessary files to apply to your hard drive.

My only suggestion is to install using 'WinNTSetup', under the 'Other Tools' section of the HBCDMenu once you have booted to MiniXP. This program will allow you to install Windows(XP/7/8) from MiniXP, provided you have the appropriate files present. So firstly copy the X:/sources/install.wim file from any Windows 7 install disc onto your BootUSB (wherever you want). Then boot to MiniXP and run 'WinNTSetup' from the HBCDMenu and follow the prompts. This will be covered in a later article (already been covered for XP http://anarcist69.blogspot.com.au/2012/04/install-windows-xp-via-minixp.html).

Hiren's Boot Cd

Suggested ISO file extensions (this may not give full functionality). Hirens 15 -. Isowinvh (or.

Free Hiren's Boot Cd Download

Isowinvhe0 i f you get a black screen on XP boot) - Hiren's MiniXP and linux only (not DOS utils) - see. DLC DLCD -. IsoHW (Removable Flash drive only) - for (add q to the end of the filename to suppress auto-suggest prompt). DLCD 2014 v3 works best when converted to.imgPTN. Isofira01 (note: bug in E2B v1.95 - use later version). If you are not sure, use.

Isoask and choose from the list!. For 100% functionality of most multifunction HBCD ISOs, try Option 3 below. If you have pre-2016 DLC or DLCD, to boot XP and Win7/8, try the. IsoHW file extension (for Mini Win7/8/10 this only works fully with E2B Removable USB flash/thumb drives or use E2B HDD + WinHelper flash drive). There is a blog entry about adding multiple Hirens and Falcon F4, etc. Note: Hirens ISOs do not yet support UEFI-booting. If there is no EFI boot folder inside the ISO then it cannot UEFI-boot. XP and DOS cannot be UEFI-booted.

Read for more info. Option 1 - Multiple Hirens ISO files Most of the Hirens menu items will work just by renaming the.iso file to. Isowinvh but the DOS Utilities require the HBCD Dos (or DLCD or DLC1, etc.) folder to be extracted onto the E2B drive - see Option 2. If your ISO contains Windows Mini7/8/10, use the. IsoHW file extension (requires Removable Flash drive). If MiniXP has problems on some systems (e.g. Hanging or no USB access), try.isomemfira.

IsoHW - if booting from an E2B hard disk (and not using a Helper E2B Flash drive), Mini7/8/10 will not load the ISO as a virtual drive. In this case, boot to the Windows Desktop and then run ISO e2b firadisk LOADISOPE.CMD from the E2B USB drive. You can then run the menu app (e.g. Y: DLC1Menu.exe and Y: DLC1 DLC2Menu.exe) from the mounted virtual CD (Y:). Kon-Bo ot won't work if booting from a Hiren's ISO because hd0 will be the USB boot drive and not the internal HDD - use the HirensISO.mnu file in the ISO docs folder for KonBoot ISO booting. If you have trouble getting the HBCD Menu program in MiniXP working (it should work if you use.isowinvh), browse to the Hirens ISO on the E2B USB drive in MiniXP - right-click and choose Mount as ImDisk Virtual Disk, then run HBCDMenu.cmd from the mounted ISO.

Option 2 - Extracted files - use if you have just one Hirens ISO If you only have one Hirens iso and if you want all functions to work, you can extract all the files from the ISO and use a FAT32 formatted E2B USB drive. Extract the contents of the Hirens iso to the root of the E2B drive using 7Zip. Note: Some files/folders like BOOT, livecd, liveusb,.cfg, autorun.inf,.doc, grldr.mbr,.cmd can be omitted. Copy the ISO docs Sample mnu files HirensBootCDExtracted.mnu file to ISO MAINMENU (or any E2B folder just below ISO). There is a different.mnu file for DLCD versions - e.g. DLCDISOExtracted.mnu If you use different versions of Hirens (e.g. DLC), you may be able to extract more than one ISO without the files overwriting each other.

Some versions of HBCD/DLCD have bugs e.g. DLC1 version 2 - see for details. Booting Hirens ISO files from an NTFS E2B USB drive If booting from an NTFS E2B USB drive, some DOS utilities will not work unless you choose the NTFS Driver instead of Auto for the DOS driver (when prompted as shown in the screenshot below).

Choose the NTFS entry if running from an NTFS USB drive. The NTFS driver uses a lot of memory and some DOS drivers may not have enough room to load into memory - therefore some DOS programs may not run if the NTFS driver is loaded. Note: To fix this without needing to select the NTFS driver, boot to Hirens miniXP. Find and run the  H BCD Dos dosimg.cmd file - follow the instructions to make a new Dos.img file. This file will then be used for DOS apps when you reboot.

Some versions of HBCD/DLCD have bugs, e.g. DLC1 version 2 - see for details.

Option 3 - Multiple Hirens (recommended) This method works on FAT32, exFAT and NTFS E2B drives and most (if not all) Hirens menu entries should work correctly (including the DOS programs). Use to make a FAT32.imgPTN file from each Hirens ISO.

Usually you just drag-and-drop the ISO onto the MPIFAT32 Desktop shortcut (after installing the MPI Tool Kit). The E2B CSM menu.lst file will automatically detect and run the following Hirens grub4dos menu.lst files:. /HBCD/menu.lst. /DLCD/menu.lst. /DLC1/menu.lst.

/DLC1/menu/menu.lst If your Hirens version uses a menu.lst file that is in a different folder, you will need to change one of these entries in the menu.lst file inside the image. For more details, read my blog entry about adding multiple Hirens to E2B in this way. Some versions of HBCD/DLCD have bugs e.g. DLC1 version 2 - see for details. DLC 2016 and later versions contain UEFI boot files. If you make a FAT32.imgPTN file from them, you can then also UEFI-boot to DLC. HBCD v9.6 and earlier - see blog post Falcon F4 (F4UBCD-4.6.iso) MiniXP will work if you just use extension.

IsoHW - but to get all working use the F4UBCD.mnu in ISO docs Sample mnu Files Falcon 4.6 and follow the instructions, OR convert to a. ImgPTN file - see my blog post. To use MiniXP with a RAID system, copy ISO to ISO WINDOWS XP folder and use E2B+DPMS. Strelec WinPE Use.isofira01, or convert the ISO to a FAT32.imgPTN file for MBR and UEFI-booting. If you get a 'Windows cannot find SSTR Mist Minst.exe' error when using a.imgPTN file - use the Disk Management Desktop shortcut on the Strelec desktop to add a drive letter to the Easy2Boot USB drive volume. Note: Bug in E2B v1.95 for.isofira01 - please use v1.96e or later.
